Board of directors and staff

Mary P. Dimick, OTR, CHT

President and Founding Member

Mary is a founding member and the president of HTCC's Board of Directors.  She currently works as a hand therapist in the greater Milwaukee, WI area.  Prior to this she held clinical and senior management positions in both local and multi-state rehabilitation organizations.

Mary’s passion for hand therapy has its roots in her twenty years of experience at the University of California, San Diego.  What began for Mary as a chance to make a difference for patients with complex multiple trauma injuries, evolved into an exciting two decades of opportunities to research and explore innovative techniques and products related to hand rehabilitation.  Mary credits the mentoring relationship she had with Dr. Richard Gelberman, then chief of the hand surgery service, as being the driving force behind her passion and commitment to hand therapy.  Together they researched and published many of the classic works on peripheral nerve sensibility.

Mary’s visionary leadership has helped to shape the profession of hand therapy. Mary served in leadership roles for the American Society of Hand Therapists from 1982-1992.  As chair of the Task Force on Legal Issues, which eventually became the Certification Committee, she helped lead the society toward certification.  When Mary left her position on the ASHT board, it was to serve as Treasurer of the newly formed Hand Therapy Certification Commission.  She helped to ensure HTCC’s financial viability through the early years of staggering developmental costs to a sound financial base for the commission’s future growth. Mary also serves on the Practice Analysis Task Force and has co-authored each of the five practice analyses of hand therapy over the last 30 years.  Mary previously served as Secretary for HTCC and is currently on the Examination Committee, Audit Committee and Practice Analysis Task Force.
